Gardens of Cheshire

Day 1

We depart the local area and make our way north to Biddulph Grange Garden (NT). This amazing Victorian garden was created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world. A visit takes you on a global journey from Italy to the pyramids of Egypt, a Victorian vision of China and a re-creation of a Himalayan glen. After the tour we make the short journey to the 4* Crewe Hall Hotel, with time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

Today we enjoy a colourful visit to RHS Bridgewater. This beautiful garden opened in 2020 and was designed by world famous landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith. Amongst the highlights we can enjoy an oasis of calm in the Paradise Garden, the Chinese inspired four season themed Streamside Garden and the fabulous Orchard Garden.

Day 3

After a leisurely breakfast we visit Dunham Massey (NT). Indoors the ornate rooms and servant's quarters hold a collection that spans the history of the house, while the water-powered mill and other historic buildings add further context that beckons you into the past. Outdoors, the accessible paths pass roaming fallow deer and ancient trees in the parkland. Across the moat, the Georgian house offers a backdrop to the formal gardens.

Day 4

This morning, we visit Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Discover the romantic Temple and Folly Water Gardens, Glade, Arboretum, double herbaceous bordered Lavinia Walk, ornamental woodland upon Tower Hill and the new Cholmondeley Rose Garden with over 800 new plantings creating two very different connected Rose Rooms between old and new. This afternoon we visit the Roman City of Chester.

Day 5

We depart after a leisurely breakfast and make our way south with a stop at the National Memorial Arboretum, before arriving back late-afternoon.
