Day 1
We depart the local area and head to Canterbury where we have free time to explore the medieval walled city, with its 1,000-year history and many attractions including the Gothic masterpiece of the UNESCO World Heritage-protected Canterbury Cathedral and the city's Westgate gatehouse. Stroll the cobbled, shop-lined alleyways and find an independent café for a relaxing coffee to watch the world go by. We arrive at the 4* voco The Clifton Folkestone Hotel, with time to settle in before dinner. Dating back to 1864, voco The Clifton Folkestone combines historic charm with modern facilities, nestled atop the stunning Leas Cliff, the Victorian-style hotel offers breathtaking views of the English Channel.
DDay 2
This morning, we take a heritage train ride from Hythe to New Romney aboard the historic Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. Our journey showcases the beautiful landscape of Romney Marsh with a brief stop at the delightful coastal town of Dymchurch with its beautiful sandy beach. This afternoon, we have free time to explore the ancient town of Rye, a Cinque Port and fortified hill town which was once surrounded by the sea. Now a popular centre of antique shops and art galleries with cobbled lanes, half-timbered buildings, quaint pubs and cafes and wonderful views across the estuary from St Mary's Church Tower.
D, BDay 3
This morning, we have free time in the delightful Kentish town of Tenterden with its distinctive high street of historic wood panelled houses and tree lined greens set back from the road. The town has a fascinating history and centuries-old buildings and churches as well as excellent shopping and coffee shops. This afternoon, we have an unforgettable tour & tasting at Chapel Down, the picturesque Kentish vineyard. Our welcoming hosts will escort us on an unforgettable tour of the vineyard and a delicious tasting of the wines.
D, BDay 4
We depart after a leisurely breakfast and make our way to the seaside town of Whitstable, where there is free time to stroll along the seafront, visit the local shops or try some of the famous local Oysters. We arrive home late-afternoon.
