Day 1
We depart the local area and make our way to Evenley Wood Gardens, set amongst the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, this 60-acre privately owned woodland garden contains a large and notable collection of plants. We arrive at the 4* Oxford Belfry Hotel with time to settle in before dinner.
DDay 2
After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Colesbourne Park, the premier place to see snowdrops in bloom. The collection is probably the most varied of any garden on display, with over three hundred varieties, over the 10 acres of private gardens and woodland walks. There are a mix of snowdrops, hellebores, cyclamen, and a wide variety of early flowering shrubs. This afternoon we visit the historic market town of Cirencester.
D, BDay 3
This morning, we make the short journey to Oxford Botanical Garden, a 5-acre garden with nearly 6,000 plant types, snowdrops, & hellebores on full display outside, with a whole host of exotic plants on display inside the many glasshouses. Highlights include: the Conservatory, the Carnivorous Plant House, and the Rainforest House.
Departing Oxford we make our way to Waterperry Gardens. Snowdrops have been grown at Waterperry since long before Miss Havergal's Horticultural School started in the 1930s. They are found along the banks of the river Thames, sheets of the double snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis 'Flore Pleno') growing beneath giant oaks and grey poplars. The collection has been added to over a number of years and the garden now has nearly 100 cultivars. It is hoped they will be flowering in the new winter walk for the coming season, making a wonderful start to the garden's new year. We return home late afternoon.
