Switzerland & The Glacier Express

Day 1

With an early departure we make our way to Dover for the ferry to Calais, continuing through France to the 3* Mercure Reims Parc des Expositions, our overnight hotel. (Tonight's dinner is a set menu).

Day 2

Departing our overnight hotel, we make our way south through France and across Switzerland to our hotel for the next two nights: the 3* Kristall-Saphir Hotel Superior. This family run hotel is situated in breathtaking mountain scenery, in the heart of the Saastal Valley.

Day 3

Today we make the short journey by coach to Taesch, where we board the shuttle Tain to Zermatt where we have the day free to explore the pedestrianised town. The car-free village offers the romance of the mountains, with chic shop's cafes and bars. You could visit the Matterhorn Museum, providing a wonderful insight into the history of both the mountain and the village. Or you could experience the Matterhorn first-hand by boarding the train to the summit of the Gorergrat, at over 3,000 metres above sea level, there are stunning views in all directions.

Day 4

After breakfast we depart the hotel and travel through the valley to Brig to board the Glacier Express for our 4-hour journey on the slowest express train in the world! We travel through snow-capped mountains and enjoy stunning views of glaciers, sparkling streams and waterfalls as we make our way towards Chur. Where our coach (and luggage!) will meet us to transfer us to our hotel for the next 3 nights: the 4* Silvretta Parkhotel. Based in the centre of Klosters, the hotel combines tradition, comfort, and warm hospitality to ensure you have an unforgettable holiday. Cozy alpine style rooms, diverse cuisine, and spacious wellness areas offer a perfect space for relaxation.

Day 5

Enjoy the day at leisure, relax at the hotel, explore Klosters, or make the most of your Davos/Klosters inclusive card, which permits free train travel from Klosters to Davos. Why not board the Schatzalp funicular railway to the botanical gardens, which feature around 3,500 different flower species from all over the world at a height of 1,861 metres, or embrace the opportunity to visit the Jakobshorn Mountain on the other side of the valley.

Day 6

We spend today in Liechtenstein, a 25-kilometre-long principality between Austria & Switzerland. Upon arrival, we embark on a guided walking tour, learning more about Liechtenstein on the way. We then visit the Postal Museum, where we discover the history of Liechtenstein's postal service through a collection of rare stamps, historic documents and machines. Our day continues with a sightseeing tour on the Citytrain, taking in the old town, vineyards, Liechtenstein Castle and Rhine Park Stadium. Our journey also takes us to the Prince of Liechtenstein Winery, where we enjoy a tasting and receive a souvenir wine glass to take home.

Day 7

We say our farewells to Switzerland and cross the border into France, stopping at our overnight hotel the 3* Mercure Reims Parc des Expositions. (Tonight's dinner is a set menu).

Day 8

Departing our overnight hotel, we make our way through France to Calais where we catch the ferry back to Dover, returning home early evening.
